Entity

Managing multi-level or multi-location device management requires seamless management of devices or entities. It is essential that each entity is assigned permissions to view and manage only the devices that belong to it.

Use case

A manufacturing company with multiple factories has multiple assets that generate voluminous data. These assets also known as entities in context to IoTConnect can comprise of:

Machines – Machine1, Machine2, Machine3….
Lights – LB1, LB2, LB3…
HVAC units – AC1, AC2, AC3…
Generators – Genrator1, Genrator2, Generator3….
Computing system – CS1, CS2, CS3…

As it is a global company, each location will have its own entity under the respective tags. For example, if the factory is located in UK and Germany, there will be separate entities under the respective country names – CompanyUK and CompanyGermany.

Furthermore, if the company has multiple locations in a single country, there will be entities associated with the specific city where the factory is located in. For example, if the company/factory is located in two London and Glasgow, the entities will be defined respectively:

CompanyLondon or London for London,
CompanyGlasgow or Glasgow for Glasgow

Hence, if Machine1, Machine2, AC1 and AC2 belong to CompanyLondon, this entity will be able to manage only these devices.

IoTConnect’s ease of managing multiple devices

Our platform’s entity management segment helps you to define parent-child architecture allowing you to simplify device allocation. It also provides you with in-depth analytics report on each defined entities.
